2-Line Analog Telephone

Frequently asked questions

Why does Caller ID not display on the LED Display?

Please check the following:

  • Verify the telephone is connected correctly by not connecting the phone to the line through a Fax machine, Modem or answering machine
  • Check Caller ID service is turned on from your local telephone phone company
  • Allow the telephone to ring more than two times

Why is the display blank on my phone?

Check that the power adapter is connected, and that the phone is connected to a working outlet. Make sure the output of the power adaptor is 16V AC 250MA.

Why is the speakerphone not working?

If the speakerphone is not working, the option for the headset may be enabled. To fix this problem, go to option 1 in the set up list and turn the option off.

Why can't I dial the number of people in my Callers List?

In order to place a call from the Call Log/Callers List, a local area code needs to be programmed into the set so that this area code will be removed upon incoming Caller ID/Call Display calls. Select the area code option in the options list and enter your area code. For example, a caller that is in the area code 216 would enter 216 as the area code to be removed. Therefore, when (216) 555-1212 is presented to the phone upon an incoming Caller ID/Call Display call, the 216 will be removed, and the display will read 555-1212. However, any numbers in the Call Log/Callers List prior to this programming remain unaffected.

When the Fax feature is enabled, "Extension-in-use" appears for line 2 and line 2 is not being used.

Make sure that the fax machine, or other Fax Switch peripheral, is connected to jack 2 of the 9417CW telephone. For the Fax Switch feature to operate properly, the telephone line must be connected to jack of the 9417CW and the Fax Switch peripheral must be connected to jack 2 of the 9417CW. The Fax Switch peripheral should not be connected to the telephone line directly (i.e. connected to the socket on the wall)

Why is it when you answer the telephone and you only hear a dial tone?

The call is on your non-prime line; press the line key with the flashing light to answer the call. If this happens often, change your answer mode to Longest or change your prime line

Why doesn't the cursor move when saving in the directory?

The number or name is too long. Numbers can be no longer than 24 digits and names can be no longer than 16 characters.

Every time I change my prime line to Line 1, it displays that the prime line is now 2. What is happening?

When the prime line reads "6=line 1" this means that if you press 6, the prime line will become Line 1.

Why has the live dial pad feature stopped working?

First, using the Option key, check that the option for live dial pad has not been turned OFF. If it is still ON, disconnect the AC adapter. This should remedy the problem.

How do I connect my fax to this phone?

Attach the line cord to Jack 2 and the other end to the modem or fax machine. Your fax will then be connected to Line 2 on the phone. The fax switch should be enabled, and you need to subscribe to distinctive ringing service from your telephone company. Also, set the fax line to answer after three rings.

Why does the Clock Display Lose or Gain Minutes, or doesn’t Update with Caller ID messages?

Cause 1: "User has manually set the date and time in the Telephone Options"
When a user manually sets the date or time in the telephone options, the
telephone stops automatically synchronizing it's clock with every phone
company Caller ID message. It now relies upon the 60Hz power line frequency
to keep the clock accurate. When that frequency drifts, so does the
telephone’s clock.
Solution: Return the phone to automatic clock synchronization. Unplug the
power adapter for 5 seconds to restart the telephone. Don’t use the
TIME/Date Option to set the date or time manually.

Cause 2: "Wrong power adapter is being used"
Use of the wrong power adapter can result in erroneous clock synchronizing
pulses and therefore cause the clock to drift. A DC adapter completely
blocks the synchronizing pulses and should not be used at locations where
incoming calls are infrequent (one every few hours).
As explained in Cause 1, the clock will be synchronized with the phone
company time and date as each new Caller ID message is delivered. During
periods where incoming calls become infrequent, the telephone must maintain
the clock’s accuracy by monitoring the power line frequency. It can only do
this when the proper AC power adapter (the factory supplied adapter) is
used.
Solution: Don't use DC adapters. Always use the proper Aastra/Nortel 16VAC
250mA adapter, specially designed for this telephone.

What are the options for the 9417cw?

There are 9 options, they are as follows: (The unlabeled set option key is located under the sliding panel)

After your first incoming call, the date and time are automatically set if you subscribe to Call Display from your local telephone company.
  • Option 1 Select the Ring Tone You can choose one of four different ring tones. Use SAVE to end only when you are satisfied with your chosen ring tone.
  • Option 2 Set the dial pad mode Live dial pad ON- the telephone chooses the prime line and automatically dials out and turns on Handsfree as soon as you press a dial pad key or a memory key. Live dial pad OFF - the telephone is in predial mode.
