Frequently asked questions
Why is the display blank on my phone?
Check that the power adapter is connected, and that the phone is connected to a working outlet. Make sure the output of the power adaptor is 16V AC 250MA.
Click Sound is heard when the phone is first picked up
|
The click sound is caused by the phone checking for the extension phone in use. The product is designed to do this because it is a type 2 (call waiting) device. In accordance to the Bellcore recommendation ,under normal use,a type 2 device should not acknowledge a call waiting signal if an extension is in use. |

Why can't I dial the number of people in my Callers List?
In order to place a call from the Call Log/Callers List, a local area code needs to be programmed into the set so that this area code will be removed upon incoming Caller ID/Call Display calls. Select the area code option in the options list and enter your area code. For example, a caller that is in the area code 216 would enter 216 as the area code to be removed. Therefore, when (216) 555-1212 is presented to the phone upon an incoming Caller ID/Call Display call, the 216 will be removed, and the display will read 555-1212. However, any numbers in the Call Log/Callers List prior to this programming remain unaffected.
The cursor doesn't move when saving in the Directory.
The number or name is too long. Numbers can be no longer than 24 digits and names can be no longer than 16 characters.
Can I save a directory number into a memory key?
A directory number cannot be saved into a memory key.
Why does Caller ID not display on the LED Display?
Please check the following:
- Verify the telephone is connected correctly by not connecting the phone to the line through a Fax machine, Modem or answering machine
- Check Caller ID service is turned on from your local telephone phone company
- Allow the telephone to ring more than two times
How do I change the language?
You can change the language by pressing the SET OPTIONS key and pressing "1" twice.
Why does the Clock Display Lose or Gain Minutes, or doesn’t Update with Caller ID messages?
Cause 1: "User has manually set the date and time in the Telephone Options" When a user manually sets the date or time in the telephone options, the telephone stops automatically synchronizing it's clock with every phone company Caller ID message. It now relies upon the 60Hz power line frequency to keep the clock accurate. When that frequency drifts, so does the telephone’s clock. Solution: Return the phone to automatic clock synchronization. Unplug the power adapter for 5 seconds to restart the telephone. Don’t use the TIME/Date Option to set the date or time manually.
Cause 2: "Wrong power adapter is being used" Use of the wrong power adapter can result in erroneous clock synchronizing pulses and therefore cause the clock to drift. A DC adapter completely blocks the synchronizing pulses and should not be used at locations where incoming calls are infrequent (one every few hours). As explained in Cause 1, the clock will be synchronized with the phone company time and date as each new Caller ID message is delivered. During periods where incoming calls become infrequent, the telephone must maintain the clock’s accuracy by monitoring the power line frequency. It can only do this when the proper AC power adapter (the factory supplied adapter) is used. Solution: Don't use DC adapters. Always use the proper Aastra/Nortel 16VAC 250mA adapter, specially designed for this telephone.
What are the options for 9316CW?
There are 10 options, they are as follows:
Option 01. Change Display Language - This option allows you to change the language of your display messages and prompts. You may choose from English, Spanish and French.
Option 02. Set the time and date - To resume automatic date and time setting (if the date and time has been set manually), disconnect the power supply, then re-connect it. After your first incoming call, the date and time are automatically set if you subscribe to Call Display from your local telephone company.
Option 03. Select the ring tone - You can choose one of four different ring tones. Use SAVE to end only when you are satisfied with your chosen ring tone.
Option 04. Add a timer key - This feature allows you to program one of the memory keys as a Timer Key. Very useful for tracking long distance calls.
Option 05. Select the dial pad mode - Live dial pad ON- the telephone chooses the prime line and automatically dials out and turns on Hands-free as soon as you press a dial pad key or a memory key. Live dial pad OFF - the telephone is in pre-dial mode. This means after you dial the telephone number you must lift the handset or press one of the following keys: Dial, Line X, or Hands-free/Mute before the number is dialed.
Option 06. Clear message waiting - (When subscribing to Voice Mail services only) There may be times when Message Waiting appears on the display when there are no more voice mail messages. This option allows you to clear it from the phone.
Option 07. Enter area codes - When you enter an area code or prefix using this feature, your Meridian 9316CW telephone will remove that code or prefix from incoming numbers that are logged in the Callers List. For example, if you enter your area code into this option, all calls in your area code will appear in the Callers List with the area code stripped off (the area code will appear in brackets after the number). This may make it easier to identify local calls. You can enter three separate area codes or prefixes, each up to seven digits long.
Option 08. Setup the Callers List - You can program the Meridian 9316CW to record on unanswered calls or all incoming calls with this option. The default is to record all calls.
Option 09. Add Security Number - The Meridian 9316CW is equipped with a Security Numbers feature to keep selected numbers private when you dial. When you have entered a secure number using this option, your telephone does not display or store any the digits that you dial after that secure number. Instead, the numbers that follow the secure number are replaced with the * symbol on the display. You can secure up to five 12-digit numbers. For example: Joe enters 291-0000 as a secure number through the Set Options list. His Voice Mail number is 1234 and his password is 5678. To access hiss messages, Joe dials the number, the display shows 291-0000 **** ****, and Joe’s password is not displayed on the screen or stored in the Redial List.
Option 10. Call Waiting Identification display on or off - This option allows you to choose whether or not Call Waiting Identification is displayed on your telephone.
NOTE: Turning the display of Call Waiting Identification on or off does not turn the feature itself on or off. When the Call Waiting display is turned off, you will still hear the Call Waiting tone when a Call Waiting call comes in, but the identification information for the Call Waiting caller will not appear on your display screen. Contact your telephone company to subscribe to Calling Line Identification with Call Waiting Identification Services.
