Meridian 5000 Series
Frequently asked questions
What sets does the MBSII line replace?
The MBSII line of the M5008, M5208, M5216, M5316 and M522 expansion module replaces the retired M5009, M5209, M5212, M5312, and the M518 and M536 expansion modules, respectively. (The M5112 was retired and not replaced in the MBSII portfolio.)
Can the MBSII sets be used in conjunction with MBSI sets?
Absolutely.
Does the M522 expansion module work on all sets?
The M522 works in conjunction with the M5216 or M5316 as an excellent call coverage solution.
How many M522s can be used for an answering position?
Two M522s can be configured with an M5316 to provide 50+ station call coverage solution.
What happens to the MBSII sets during a power outage?
Since the M5008 and M5208 are both loop powered, both sets retain 100% functionality during the disruption. And despite the loss of speakerphone and display, the M5316 and M5312 still maintain dial tone and feature access!
What exactly does "loop powered" mean?
Loop powered means that no additional power supply is required because electrical current needed for set functionality is provided from the local central office through the telephone wiring.
Do the MBSII sets require multiple line cards in the central office?
Although the MBSII sets have multi-line capability, they require only one line card.
What central office switching systems are compatible with the MBSII sets?
With a 70%+ digital centrex market share, Nortel Network's DMS-100 family of switches is the driving force behind the MBSII sets!
Will the MBSII sets work behind the Meridian SL-100?
Indeed! The MBSII set is a versatile terminal!
Are the MBSII user guides available in other languages?
MBSII user guides are available in English, Spanish and French.
Do the MBSII sets offer the convenience of on-hook dialing?
Absolutely! Each MBSII set provides on-hook monitoring of calls while dialing, on hold, etc.
Is 2-way speakerphone capability available?
The M5316 provides excellent quality, third generation, and full duplex technology.
What is the loop length recommendation (distance from the central office to the customer premise)?
Roughly 3 miles is the recommended loop length.
Does the "red triangle" in the upper right hand corner of the MBSII set provide visual voice mail indication?
The "red triangle" is a visual ringing indicator. Voice mail indication is through the "black diamond" appearance next to your "message" key.
So if my ringer volume is turned completely down, can I still tell when I'm receiving an incoming call?
Yes! With the exception of the M5008, you can still catch that important phone call even with the ringer turned all the way down!
Can I use a headset with all the MBSII sets?
Although you can use a headset with any of the MBSII sets, the M5216 was especially designed for headset use with a headset jack built right in. The M5216 is perfect for high volume, call handling attendant applications or in a customer service, Automatic Call Distribution (ACD) environments. The other sets require an adapter to accommodate a headset.
My customer is interested in branding the MBSII sets with company logos. Can Aastra Telecoms customize that market requirement?
Without a doubt! MBSII sets can be customized with brand/logo inserts.
Do customers have a choice in colors?
The MBSII sets are available in colors that will most certainly compliment business environments: Ash, Black, or Gray.
Will my customers pay more for the MBSII improved solution?
With sensitivity to your customer's budget, Aastra Telecoms is making these new sets available for the same price as the current sets. The best news is that the new M5208 is actually less that its' older sibling the M5209.
